Drakestone, The

Project Name: The Drakestone

Location: 1309 Main Street, Dallas, TX 75202

Project Type: Office Building

Synopsis: During the early morning hours, the Drakestone fire pump automatically activated. Shortly thereafter, a fire was identified within the fire pump room, resulting in damage that rendered the primary fire pump out of service. An immediate response was initiated to dispatch and install a temporary mobile fire pump to maintain required fire protection capabilities, with life safety identified as the highest priority.

Details: Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, Texas, the Drakestone is one of the city’s oldest buildings, originally serving primarily as a bank in its early years. With life safety as the foremost priority—not only for life safety professionals but for all occupants—an effective solution was essential. With the fire pump rendered inoperable, the risk to residents was significant. The Drakestone required a rapid response to reinstate fire suppression capabilities, meet local life safety regulations, and ensure continued occupancy.

Solution: A temporary fire pump system was deployed to provide reliable fire protection while the existing equipment was evaluated and replaced. The temporary system was strategically installed to bypass the damaged infrastructure and deliver the required water pressure and flow to the building’s fire suppression system. This approach ensured continuous fire protection coverage without displacing residents or disrupting normal building operations.
Through the rapid implementation of the temporary fire pump system, the Drakestone maintained compliance with applicable fire and life safety regulations and safeguarded occupants while permanent repairs were completed. This swift response enabled a seamless transition back to a fully operational fire suppression system without compromising life safety.
